Sermon text: Isaiah 11:1-5 The kingdom of Judah was in a desperate situation. The nation was being threatened with attack by its closest neighbors. The king looked to Assyria, the superpower of the time, for assistance. But the Assyrians could not really be trusted. Into this dire time came the prophet Isaiah. Prayer First (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
In order to be in tune with God’s will, believers need to pray. It’s really that simple. But prayer isn’t simple. It’s more than just something to do at mealtime or before bed. It needs to be kingdom focused. That’s what Paul describes in today’s text. Christians need to pray for others, but especially for our leaders. And the goal of our prayers is to see those we pray for come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Who is Jesus to You? (John 12:12-19)
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey that first Palm Sunday, there were many ideas among the crowd as to who He really was. Most were looking for a political leader and deliverer from Roman tyranny. Others wondered how He could alter their personal lives for the better. A relative few saw Him as One who had a more heavenly mission.
