Having instructed the church in Philippi to be of one mind and to put others first, Paul now gives his readers the perfect example of this. As we continue our study on Philippians, “Striving Together,” we turn to a powerful section of Scripture. Philippians 2:5-11, known as the “Kenosis Passage,” presents Jesus as the prime example of someone who put others first in His life. Jesus left the glory of heaven and voluntarily became not just a human, but a slave for God’s glory. His death was the greatest demonstration of humility the world has ever known. But Paul explains that Jesus’ obedience to fulfill His mission resulted in God giving Him the greatest acclaim. Eventually the entire creation will confess Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords.
With all of this amazing truth, we need to also keep our eyes on why Paul wrote this. Every follower of Jesus Christ can and should seek to humbly serve as many people as possible.
